Affiliations

The Göbekli Tepe Archaeological Project of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI – external link) is part of the interdisciplinary long-term project “The Prehistoric Societies of Upper Mesopotamia and their Subsistence” [external link] funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG – external link). Further support was kindly granted by ArchaeNova e.V., Global Heritage Fund [external link], the Theodor Wiegand Gesellschaft e.V. [external link], and the John Templeton Foundation [external link].

Excavations are conducted by the Orient and Istanbul Departments of the DAI in close cooperation with the Şanlıurfa Haleplibahçe Museum [external link] and with permission and support by the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism [external link]. The archaeobiological part of the project is conducted by the Institute of Palaeoanatomy, Domestication Research and the History of Veterinary Medicine, Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich [external link] under the direction of Prof. Dr. Joris Peters.

In 2015 a contract signed with the General Directorate of Cultural Monuments and Museums elevated Doğuş Group (‘Şahenk Initiative’) [external link] to the status of official commercial sponsor for the Göbekli Tepe site.
